Client Journeys is a series about how our client relationships actually unfold. Names are kept private.
A visitor from Houston came into W Department, our design store on the Plaza, one afternoon while she was exploring the city. She was taken with Santa Fe, and she wondered aloud what it might be like to live here someday. There was no timeline and no urgency, only curiosity, and the beginning of a relationship.
That relationship took its time. We walked neighborhoods with her, answered her questions about how a week actually passes here, and let her form her own sense of the place. She rented locally for a while. She put a house under contract and then, when it did not feel right, walked away from it. The decision was difficult in the moment. It was also the one that gave her clarity.
Not long after, we returned to a house she had already seen once, on Loma Arisco, just north of Fort Marcy. Nothing about the house had changed. She had. With a deeper sense of the city, and a clearer sense of herself in it, she knew.
In that transaction we had the privilege of representing both the buyer and the seller, guiding each side with transparency and care to a smooth closing.
The lesson is one we keep relearning. Finding a home is rarely a matter of seeing the most properties. It is a matter of time, of priorities that sharpen as they go, and of recognizing the right decision when it finally arrives.
