About Webster Santa Fe

In 1972, Chris Webster, having recently graduated from college, found his way to Santa Fe and instantly became enchanted and fell in love. Over the next several years, he fully immersed himself in the art, culture, history, cuisine, and lifestyle of this high desert oasis. With relationships and connections in the art world back East, he started an art brokerage and consultancy, connecting museums, collectors, and the newly curious with historic Native American and Western art – pottery, basketry, beadwork, textiles, and turquoise jewelry as well as paintings, sculpture, and photography. As he traveled the country, the refrain from others was consistent: “I love Santa Fe,” “I want to live in Santa Fe,” “I want to retire to Santa Fe.”  A light went on with the growing enthusiasm and expressed interest received, and a professional merger of fine art plus real estate ensued.

Chris, Patti, and their son, Christopher are as passionate about Santa Fe today as Chris was when he first discovered the Land of Enchantment more than 50 years ago. The Websters continue to operate their family business, Webster Enterprises with its gallery, Webster Collection, a real estate brokerage, Webster Estates (in association with Sotheby’s International Realty), and a high-end clothing boutique, W Department – all headquartered upstairs on the west side of Santa Fe’s historic Plaza within a space presenting an environment emulating a 17th-early 18th Century Mexican Colonial hacienda. In ancient times, Santa Fe was known by Native Americans as “The Dancing Ground of the Sun” and “White Shell Water Place.” More recently it is known as “The City Different” – an appellation similar in sentiment to a late 19th Century comment made by the Territorial Governor of the time, Lew Wallace (1887-1891) when he stated in a letter to his wife a still often repeated quote today – “all calculations based on experiences elsewhere fail in New Mexico.”  Santa Fe is the oldest capital city in the US, a town steeped in history, with no major industry other than tourism, and where the sun shines 325 days a year. It is an art center ranking 3rd in the US and the world behind Paris and New York. Perched at an elevation of 7,000+ feet and adjacent to 1.5+ million acres of public lands that include Ski Santa Fe with elevations topping out at 12,000 – 13,000 feet, Santa Fe is a community known for its extraordinary lifestyle, architecture, spirituality, cuisine, recreation, cultural activities, climate, and film production, among so many other attributes.
