Marion Claire Wasserman was a painter first, and it shows in work she no longer paints. Her video installations are layered the way a canvas is layered, image over image, timeline over timeline, until the thing you are looking at has a depth that has nothing to do with the screen.
Biography
Wasserman was born in New York City in 1966 and is educated in philosophy and Eastern religion, which is the frame her subjects sit in: prana, consciousness, transformation, and archetypes. Her move from painting into video, and then from video into sculptural installation, let her put stories inside new contexts and new layers of perspective. She received an MFA from the Transart Institute, Plymouth University, in 2015. She lives and works in Santa Fe.

Wasserman is the artist in this house most likely to make you stand still longer than you meant to. Her short film Medicine Wheel, which decries oil extraction and fracking activity in the Four Corners area and Chaco Canyon, screened here during the Indian Market show, and it did the thing the best political work does: it refused to raise its voice. She showed with us again in Flora, in a very different register.
